Caroline Hahn , née Caroline Möwes , ( May 31, 1814 in Berlin - November 6, 1885 in Neustrelitz ) was a German opera singer ( alto / soprano ).

Life

Hahn first appeared on the stage at the Neustrelitz court theater on August 15, 1829 as a choir singer. Her voice (a beautiful, splendid alto) soon caught the attention of the Grand Duke, who commissioned the conductor there to deal with the training of the young talent. It didn't take long before she could be entrusted with small solo parts, which she successfully performed. She completed her singing exercises with Josef Elsler in Berlin and after Karl Sdawinski had also given her acting lessons, the young, talented singer began to enjoy a rich artistic activity.

She remained in the association of the Strelitz court theater until it was dissolved (1848), in which year she was also appointed grand ducal chamber singer. Hahn did not retire from the stage for a long time, however, but appeared repeatedly as a guest in Neustrelitz as well as on other opera stages, until she finally said valet to the boards as “Azucena” in 1869 . But she still did not renounce art. From time to time she appeared in court concerts and in the concerts of the Singing Academy. She never left her beloved Neustrelitz, which in the true sense of the word became her second hometown, and where she celebrated her 50th anniversary on August 15, 1879. She stayed there until her death.

The artist, who married the singer and painter Eduard Hahn in 1835 , was one of her most important achievements: "Imogene" ( pirate ), "Norma", "Unknown", "Romeo", "Antonine" ( Belisarius ), " Rose ”( Adlers Horst ),“ Rosine ”,“ Arsaces ”,“ Tancred ”etc. and in all of them she received rapturous applause.

Her son was the theater actor, director, director and director Emil Hahn (1832–1897).
