Carraig Fhada
Carraig Fhada is a cape on the south coast of the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . It is opposite the Port Ellen ferry terminal, about two kilometers away . Carraig Fhada protrudes about 200 m to the east from the land mass of the island. It runs out to a point in a rocky ledge. It can be reached by a road from the north along the coastline that ends there. About one kilometer southwest of Carraig Fhada is the abandoned town of Lurabus .
At the top is the listed lighthouse of Port Ellen , built in 1832, which marks the entrance to the town's harbor. Part of the cape is occupied by a farm called Carraig Fhada Farm . Two Cairns were discovered on Carraig Fhada, measuring nine and about seven meters in diameter. One of the two is completely overgrown with grass, the other partially overgrown. A ring-shaped stone circle at the foot of the cape could be the remains of an open grave site. More piles of stones seem to be the remains of a derelict agricultural yard. They are probably more recent and have no historical value.
