Carron Bridge

The Carron Bridge is a stone bridge north of the Scottish town of Kilsyth in the Council Areas of North Lanarkshire and Stirling . It runs over the River Carron , which marks the border between North Lanarkshire and Stirling. In 1971 the bridge was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B. A classification as a Scheduled Monument was lifted in 2016.

History and description

In 1695 a bridge was first built at this point over the Carron. It was rebuilt just twenty years later. The bridge that is preserved today essentially dates from this period. In 1907 the Carron Bridge was restored and finally reinforced in 1970. Due to its location on a side road between Kilsyth and the B818, the Carron Bridge is of little importance in terms of traffic.

The road bridge leads over the Carron in two unequal segment arcs. The central pillar is protected by a sweeping, triangular protruding icebreaker .
