Carsten Niederberger

Carsten Niederberger (born November 17, 1979 in Heidenheim an der Brenz ) is a former German modern pentathlete .

After Niederberger had been active in swimming for some time , he turned to modern pentathlon in 1993. In the same year, at the age of fourteen, he won the German C-youth championships. In 1995 the first call-up to the national team of the German Association for Modern Pentathlon followed under the then national coach Herbert Rieden .

The sporting highlight of his career was winning the world title with the relay at the 2002 World Championships in San Francisco .

In 2005 Niederberger retired from international competitive sport and officially declared his career over. This was preceded by a long-term dispute with national coach Iri Zlatanov .

Carsten Niederberger is a member of the water polo team in SV Heidenheim 04 (Association League Baden-Württemberg).
