The Carter House (also WC Reimer House ) is a museum in the small town of Elkader in the state of Iowa in the United States . It is an 18-room, neoclassical- style building from the 19th century. The museum illustrates life in Iowa in the late 19th century and exhibits furniture, clothing, uniforms, farm tools, and various everyday objects from the period 1850 to 1920.

The Carter House was built in 1855 as a semi-detached house by the brothers Henry and Ernest Victor Carter for their two families. In 1885 the house was sold by the Carter family to Joe and Ella Lamm and after their death it was acquired by William and Lina Reimer in 1938. The Reimers lived at Carter House until their death, during which time the house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places . After the Reimers' death, the Carter House was bought up in 1983 by the Elkader Historical Society, which restored it and converted it into a museum.
