Soy processing factory near Paris, 1916

Caséo-Sojaïne is a soy processing factory built in 1908 in La Garenne-Colombes (in the suburb of Paris) . It was founded by the Chinese agricultural economist and educator Li Yuying , who with her set up the first industrial soy milk production with the aim of meeting the nutritional needs of poorer regions of the world (primarily in his home country, China) in a sustainable manner. Chinese people worked here who took part in a program in which they studied the Chinese or French language and natural sciences in parallel. The future leader of the People's Republic of China , Deng Xiaoping , worked there until 1920.

The Caséo-Sojaïne did pioneering work in the development of soy, increased the oil and protein content and the yield stability.

The factory illustrates the principle of Qingong jianxue yundong : In addition to the actual purpose of creating a system for the effective production of food based on the innovative application of chemical and agricultural research, a simple system with strict moral framework conditions (including alcohol, tobacco, Gambling and prostitution prohibited) the rhythm of life of the student workers change daily between work and study during their free time. This principle should contribute to the formation of a new type of person or a new elite: entirely dedicated to work and of irreproachable honesty. Furthermore, this method should develop values such as mutual assistance, cooperation, equality in the social behavior of each individual.
