The Casa de Lavalleja is a building in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo .

The building, erected around 1783, is one of the few preserved in the colonial style of this era of Montevideo's history and is located in Ciudad Vieja on Calle Zabala 1469 between streets 25 de Mayo and Cerrito . Information about the architect of the Casa de Lavalleja is not available. The building, originally conceived as a residential building for Manuel Cipriano de Melo y Mencía , in which Brigadier General Juan Antonio Lavalleja later lived, was restored under the direction of architects A. Campos and F. Lasala , which began on October 17 of the previous year . It has housed the Museo Histórico Nacional since it opened on October 12, 1942 . The nine-meter-high, two-story Casa de Lavalleja, with a floor area of ​​760 m², is owned by the Uruguayan Ministry of Education and Culture (Ministerio de Educación y Cultura).

Since 1975 the building has been classified as the Monumento Histórico Nacional .
