Editori Laterza is an Italian publisher based in Rome and Bari .
The publishing house was founded on May 10, 1901 by Giovanni Laterza (1873-1943) in Bari and was initially called Casa Editrice Gius. Laterza & figli in homage to his father Giuseppe Laterza (1841–1914). The collaboration with the literary critic and philosopher Benedetto Croce (1866–1952) was decisive for the direction of the publishing program . From 1908, Croce's works were published by Laterza Publishing. The magazine “La Critica” was also published by Laterza, which Croce had a major influence on as editor and contributor and made it one of the most important literary magazines in Italy.
In the post-war period Vito Laterza (1926-2001) took over the management of the publishing house. In 1963 the family-run publishing house was converted into a stock corporation.
The publishing house has been based in Rome since 1972, but the original publishing house is still in Bari.
