Castle House in Bridgwater

Castle House is a country house in Bridgwater in the English county of Somerset . It was built in 1851 for William Ackerman . Most of the building was made of brick , but it is one of the first buildings in the world to use heavily portland cement to make prefabricated concrete . English Heritage has it as a historical building II *. Grade listed.

The building contains many ornaments and some concrete structures that represent "an innovative interpretation of traditional concrete masonry".

Castle House was a finalist for the second season of the BBC television series Restoration in 2004 and was endorsed by friends of Joe Strummer .

It is listed on English Heritage's Heritage-at-Risk register, and English Heritage also organized funds for the home's restoration.

In 2012, NNB Generation Company (subsidiary of Électricité de France ) donated £ 300,000 to the SAVE Trust for the restoration of Castle House as part of the money it paid to the local community for the development of the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant . It is planned to use the building as a meeting point for clubs and organizations involved in the Bridgwater Carnival as soon as it is renovated.
