The Cat Arm Reservoir is a reservoir in the southeast of the Great Northern Peninsula on the island of Newfoundland, which belongs to the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .

Reservoir

The Cat Arm Reservoir is an approximately 50 km² reservoir on the Cat Arm River . Between 1982 and 1985 a dam ( ) was built 18 km above the mouth of the river . The hydropower project included the construction of seven more dams. The water level of the reservoir is an average of 390.9  m . It fluctuates between 385.4  m and 393.8  m . The catchment area of the lake is 611 km². The water is fed to a preliminary basin ( ) from which pressure lines lead to the power plant.

Cat Arm Hydroelectric Plant

The Cat Arm ( ) hydroelectric power station is located on Devil Cove , a small cove off White Bay 18 km north of Jackson's Arm parish . It has two units, each with a 63.5 MW Pelton turbine . These were put into operation in February 1985. The turbines use a drop height of 380.5 m. The water volume of the turbines is 20 m³ / s each. The annual energy production is 680 GWh. The facility is operated by Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro , a subsidiary of Nalcor Energy .
