The Canadian company Systems Xcellence was founded in 1993. The software company ComCoTec acquired it 8 years later. The company went public on NASDAQ in 2006. In 2008, National Medical Card Systems was acquired, a few months after the company name was changed to SXC Health Solutions. Another 2 years later, the specialty pharmaceutical company MedfusionRx was bought. In July 2012 the name was changed to Catamaran. In 2015, Catamaran was taken over by United Health . United Health merged Catamaran with OptumRX that same year.
