The Cathedral Caves are some of the touristy coastal caves in the Catlins on the South Island of New Zealand . They are located near the Southern Scenic Route tourist route at the north end of Waipati Beach , south of Tautuku . The two largest caves are connected to each other, one of them reaches a height of 30 meters.
Access to the caves directly on the coast is only possible at low tide . A fee is charged for access via the access route, which is largely located on private land.
