The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is a Roman Catholic episcopal church in the Texan city of Tyler . It was built in 1934 in the Spanish Colonial Revival style . Since 1987 it has been the bishopric of the newly established diocese of Tyler .

history

When, following the continuous growth of the city's Catholic community, the original church building - a simple timber frame structure - had become too small, a few blocks further south was built in 1934 in what is today a prominent urban location at the intersection of South Broadway Avenue and West Front Street existing church building as the second church of the community.

As part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the parish in 1978, modifications were made to the furnishings of the church in order to take into account the changed liturgy. A newly built archway, which repeats the typical round arches of the facade and the church windows, also dates from this period.

After the establishment of the Diocese of Tyler from areas of the dioceses of Beaumont, Dallas and Galveston-Houston on December 12, 1986, the church was consecrated as a cathedral in 1987.

On November 21, 1989, it was declared a Tyler Historic Landmark .
