Catocala cerogama is a butterfly found in North America( moth ) from the family of the owl butterfly (Noctuidae).
features
The moths reach a wingspan of 64 to 81 millimeters. The upper side of the forewings is gray-brown to dark brown in color. Inner and outer transverse lines are black and strongly jagged. While the kidney blemish is mostly only indicated, the gray-white sub-kidney blemish underneath stands out very clearly. On the predominantly black-brown upper side of the hind wing there is a yellow band that runs in a semicircle from the front to the inner edge. The fringes are black and white, the basal region is yellow-brown. On the undersides of the wings, there are strong contrasting, wide black cross bars.
distribution and habitat
Catocala cerogama occurs widely to locally in the eastern and central regions of North America. The species primarily inhabits forests with a rich population of American lime ( Tilia americana ).
Way of life
The nocturnal, univoltine moths can be found between July and October. You visit artificial light sources and baits . The caterpillars prefer to feed on the leaves of the American lime tree ( Tilia americana ). The species overwinters in the egg stage.
