The Cauldron Pool ( English for Kesseltümpel ) is a hot and steaming crater lake with brackish water in the northwest of Candlemas Island in the archipelago of the South Sandwich Islands . It lies east of Tow Bay below the western slopes of the volcanically active Lucifer Hill .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee gave it its descriptive name in 1971.
