Cause and Effect is the fourth studio album by the Norwegian singer and songwriter Maria Mena . It was released on September 15, 2008 in Norway. The album was released in German-speaking countries on October 3, 2008.

Album concept

Unlike its predecessors, Mena designed this album according to an underlying concept: “For the first time, before starting work on an album, I had an overarching theme. I had made up my mind to set a few guidelines for myself, a framework in which to move. My other albums were always about the things that had happened the year before, this time I wanted to work through my entire life story. ”The songs also include a cover version of the KISS classic I Was Made for Lovin 'You .

effect

The album entered the German charts at number 20, and the first single All This Time made it to number 15.

Beyond the “gentle and melancholy songs”, the album was praised by critics for its profound lyrics and successful staging: “In the details, there are no blunders - you have to take a step back and look at the overall impression. And then it also becomes apparent that this “fascinating journey” consists of eleven wonderful stages: Captain Mena circumnavigates the sandbanks of insignificance in large arcs ”.

In the Austrian music magazine now! also highlighted a “decent leap in development” by the singer-songwriter: “While on the predecessor Apparently Unaffected she tended to express her life and suffering quite bluntly in the songs, she has now found a suitable form for it. Cause and Effect captivates with artfully orchestrated songs that go into the ear ”.

In 2009 the album reached the gold record for more than 100,000 records sold.
