origin

The family is said to come from the Italian-speaking part of Istria , from which the old Austrian diplomat Anton von Cavallar also comes. It appears several times in the nobility registers of the Duchy of Carniola (1763, 1819, 1821, 1823, 1849 and 1858). According to other sources, the family is said to have descended from a noble family from Brescia .

With the award of the Austrian Imperial Leopold Order (May 10, 1849) Ferdinand I. Cavallar von Grabensprung , nephew of Joseph von Cavallar , was elevated to the Austrian knighthood on March 21, 1856 with the predicate "von Grabensprung", in accordance with the statutes of the order .
