Caymari

Caymari is a district ( Reparto ) of the east Cuban city ​​of Manzanillo in the Granma province . From an administrative point of view, Caymari has been a Consejo popular (People's Council), an administrative unit, since 1988 .

In the first decade of the 20th century, the settlement was built on the site of the farm "Punta de Pie", which belonged to José Caymari, on the northeast border to the city of Manzanillo. In 1912 the Manzanillo City Council confirmed that construction of the Caymari settlement (Nuevo Reparto Caymari) had begun on an area of ​​1.08 km². The streets in Caymari are all square and about 120 × 120 meters. In the north, the place borders directly on the main road 4 (expressway). Caymari has 64 such square settlement blocks.

In the largest square, on 2da Avenida with around 230 × 230 meters, is the center with a hospital, art college and social facilities. 20 ° 20 ′ 34 ″  N , 77 ° 6 ′ 25 ″  W East of Caymari is the industrial zone.

Construction of Caymari Hospital began in 1908, it was completed in 1912 and inaugurated on October 10, 1912. It was built on the basis of the will of José Caymari Vila, who had no direct heirs and thus let his fortune benefit the general public. José Caymari died on July 4, 1896 in Manzanillo and donated all of his fortune to a charity.

After the end of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, there were many unemployed and people began to create jobs in Caymari. Numerous small businesses emerged and the streets were expanded and schools built in the settlement. The Caymari Hospital was expanded to include a children's clinic in 1962. The hospital is now called “Hospital Pediátrico 'Hermanos Cordové'”.

In March 2002 Fidel Castro opened the “Carlos Enríquez” art school in Caymari. On July 23, 2005, the social facility Joven Club de Computación was inaugurated, where courses for children, young people, adults, senior citizens and the disabled are held free of charge, similar to the German adult education center. In 2012 Caymari already had 8,048 inhabitants (2012 census).
