Termite mounds on Cayo Levisa

The island of Cayo Levisa is located about 3 km off the north coast of Cuba in the Gulf of Mexico in the province of Pinar del Río . Only the Hotel Cayo Levisa is located on the island. The north coast of the island is formed by the almost 4 km long fine-grained white sandy beach , behind which a strip of pine forest stretches. The southern side of the island is covered by an inaccessible mangrove forest. Cayo Levisa is a refuge for pelicans and other large birds. The island can be reached twice a day with a 30-minute ferry ride from the mainland. There is a guarded parking lot at the ferry terminal. From Havana, 130 kilometers away, there is a daily shuttle bus to the ferry station. Cuban nationals (regardless of their place of residence inside or outside of Cuba) are prohibited from entering the ferry without a special permit from the Coast Guard.

hotel

The Hotel Cayo Levisa is an upscale complex consisting of several beach bungalows. It is operated by the Horizontes company. The main target group are divers who explore the diverse diving spots in the area. In addition to the beach and water sports, the hotel hardly offers any entertainment, so pure bathing tourists usually only spend a few nights on Cayo Levisa. Day trippers pay 15 CUC for the crossing and can use the island's beach.
