organization

It is run by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French Ministry of Research and Higher Education / Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS). It has the status of a French research institute abroad (Unité mixte des instituts français de recherche à l'étranger: UMIFRE No. 14 CNRS-MAEE) and is also a research facility of the CNRS (USR 3130).

Since 2001 it has also been co-financed by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). In addition, the CMB has been closely linked to the Humboldt University of Berlin (HU) as an "affiliated institute" since January 2011 through a cooperation agreement . The Center Marc Bloch has been a registered association under German law since January 2016 .

research

In the centre's main research areas and research projects, interdisciplinarity arises through joint work on transversal topics. In addition, lectures, workshops and colloquia with participants from Germany, France and many other countries are organized. The Center Marc Bloch is successful in acquiring third-party funded projects that enable long-term research collaborations in the Franco-German and European framework.

One focus of the work is the promotion of young scientists. Doctoral students come to the center for work stays between a few months and several years. You will be provided with a tutor who accompanies your work in a working group. Current projects are presented and discussed in the regular research colloquium. The center is committed to the good integration of its French doctoral students and researchers into the Berlin scientific landscape and helps German doctoral students to develop contacts with France. In addition, programs specially tailored to the needs of doctoral students, such as doctoral days, workshops and summer schools, are organized. Research and the promotion of young talent are organized in the Center Marc Bloch in four main research areas.
