Center national d'études des telecommunications

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CNET or Center national d'études des télécommunications ( National Center for Telecommunications Studies ) was a French national research center for studies in the field of telecommunications .

It was founded on May 4, 1944 as a French inter-ministerial research center under the general supervision of the French Ministry of Post and Telecommunications.

In 1990 the French government privatized the General Directorate of Telecommunications (DGT) (part of the French Ministry of Post and Telecommunications) and created the state-controlled joint stock company France Télécom with CNET as the research and development center. In March 2000, CNET was merged into France Télécom R&D , the research and development branch of the France Télécom group. The previously independent units such as CNET and CCETT (founded in 1972) as well as other units belonged to this branch of the company. Since 2007 France Telecom R&D is better known as Orange Labs , a global network of research and development units.
