Century Aluminum is an American aluminum producer. The company was founded in 1995 as a spin-off from Glencore International. In 2015 Century produced 936,000 tons of primary aluminum .
An aluminum smelter in Helguvik , Iceland, with an annual capacity of 360,000 t is planned by the subsidiary Norðurál. The electricity required for this is to be generated by geothermal energy . The project is currently on hold (2019). The Ravenswood, West Virginia, facility closed in 2015.
