Technology and development

After the team in 1999 had reached a low point and only the penultimate place in the constructors' standings ahead of Minardi reached, should the rise coming in the 2000th The British Mike Coughlan and the Iranian Eghbal Hamidy , who had also developed the Arrows A20 from last year , built a vehicle that gave the team a small but significant boost. The previous engine, which Arrows had developed himself with the help of Brian Hart , was replaced by a Supertec unit . The sequential six-speed gearbox was also developed by Arrows, but in collaboration with Xtrac . The engine ran on petrol from the Spanish Repsol Group. The Potenza type tires came from Bridgestone .

Painting and sponsorship

Arrows was able to present the new sponsor Orange at the beginning of the season . Thus, the vehicle was painted in the company colors orange-black. Apart from Orange, chello , Repsol YPF, tire supplier Bridgestone and Eurobet also advertised on the vehicle.

driver

Pedro de la Rosa stayed with the team for the 2000 season, as the money from his sponsor, the Spanish oil company Repsol, was almost vital for Arrows. The Japanese Toranosuke Takagi was sacked after just one season and replaced by the experienced Dutchman Jos Verstappen , as Arrows hoped with his development aid chances of the first win.

2000 season

The season started at the Australian Grand Prix , which Arrows ended with a double retirement. In the course of the season, the Arrows failed a total of twenty times, but in contrast to the previous year, they managed, if only rarely, to get into the points. Verstappen crossed the finish line ahead of his teammate in all of the races he finished. On high-speed tracks like the A1-Ring or Hockenheimring , the Arrows could easily compete with the top cars with little gasoline in their tanks. It is worth highlighting the performance of Verstappen at the Austrian Grand Prix , when he advanced to fourth place in the first third of the race, but then retired. At the end of the season Arrows had reached seven points, and thus held seventh place in the constructors' championship. The Benetton , also equipped with Supertec engines, came fourth.

Further use of the chassis

A chassis was bought by Leitgeb Motorsport Projects and is now used as a show car.
