Xtrac Limited is an English transmission manufacturer , founded in 1984 by former Hewland engineer Mike Endean , based in Thatcham . The company specialized in the development and construction of various transmissions for the motorsport sector, especially at the beginning of the company's history, all-wheel drives for rallycross vehicles.
Company history
Mike Endean and Chris Goddard were employees at the British transmission manufacturer Hewland when they developed the first Xtrac all-wheel drive in 1983 for the Norwegian rallycross driver Martin Schanche .
In 2000 a new headquarters was built in Thatcham on an area of 8,200 m², where the company still has its headquarters today. Xtrac has also had two branch offices in Indianapolis and Mooresville since 2003 .
In 2010, all three new teams in Formula 1, HRT F1 Team , Virgin Racing and Lotus Racing , used a transmission from Thatcham as it is connected to the Cosworth CA2010 naturally aspirated V8 engine .
In 2011 the Pagani Huayra , an entirely handcrafted supercar , was introduced. This car from the Italian sports car manufacturer contains the Xtrac 1007 AMT, a sequential seven-speed transmission.
In 2018, the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Theresa May , opened the new £ 22 million expansion of the production facility. The company also expanded into the automotive, marine and aerospace sectors.
Motorsport
Xtrac supplies a large number of different teams and racing series with its transmissions. Since 2006, Xtrac has been involved in four Formula 1 world championship wins. In addition to Formula 1, eleven teams with an Xtrac transmission have won the Indianapolis 500 miles and eight more the IndyCar series since 2006 .
In addition, many winners of endurance races such as the 24-hour races of Le Mans , the 24-hour races of Daytona and the 12-hour race of Sebring used Xtrac transmissions.
In 2015 Kyle Busch used an Xtrac transmission at the NASCAR Sprint Cup , in 2016 the victorious Montaplast by Land-Motorsport team with its driver Connor De Phillippi used an Xtrac transmission at the ADAC GT Masters and won the championship with it.
Xtrac is also successful in rallying , with nine victorious teams from the World Rally Championship and the Dakar Rally since 2006 .
