Certificat d'aptitude au professorat de l'enseignement du second degré

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The CAPES is an exam for prospective secondary school teachers in France . It is taken after five years of study (degree: Master) in a subject, as French secondary school teachers are specialists in only one school subject.

The CAPES is only passed by a certain, predetermined number of candidates: beforehand, the Ministry of Education determines the number of positions that are to be filled in the respective year. Those who pass the CAPES become civil servants on probation; after a year of recognition (stage), civil servants are granted for life (titularisation).

As with the Agrégation, the exam consists of two parts. Only those who pass the written part of the examination are admitted to the oral examination.
