Certified Financial Modeler

The Certified Financial Modeler (CFM) is a title awarded by the German Institute for Corporate Finance. When financial modeling , it is essentially a matter to map all the questions from the financial industry with a computer-assisted analysis and resolution. The Microsoft Excel programs and the VBA scripting language are generally used for this .

The managing directors of the German Institute for Corporate Finance are Joachim Häcker and Dietmar Ernst.

The title Certified Financial Modeler is awarded by the German Institute for Corporate Finance in cooperation with Deutsche Börse . The German Institute for Corporate Finance is responsible for the content. The exam is carried out by Deutsche Börse.

Exam locations

The Certified Financial Modeler can be taken at Deutsche Börse at the following locations: Frankfurt / Eschborn, Zurich, London, Paris, Hong Kong and Singapore. The exam can be taken in German or English.

Exam content

The Certified Financial Modeler exam is currently divided into five parts: Workshop Excel, Workshop VBA, Corporate Finance, Portfolio Management and Derivatives. During the exam, 360 questions have to be answered in 240 minutes. At least 75% of the questions must be answered correctly in each part in order to pass the exam successfully and to be able to use the title "Certified Financial Modeler". The preparation for the exam takes place by means of an e-learning program that is made available to the examinees in the so-called "Center for Financial Modeling". The book “Financial Modeling” is also used. This book is published by the two directors of the German Institute for Corporate Finance, among others.
