The Chōchin-Kabuto ( Japanese 提 灯 兜 , "lantern helmet ") is a protective weapon and a helmet from Japan.

description

The Chōchin-Kabuto is usually made of steel . The shapes and designs of this helmet vary. The peculiarity of this type of Kabuto is that it could be folded or folded. The armor rings are movably connected to one another by silk ribbons. The respective rings become larger from the top to the lower edge of the helmet, so that each ring fits into the other. It is possible to fold the helmet for transport in order to save space in the baggage. The helmets are sometimes equipped with a kind of curtain made of fabric, chain armor or a kind of brigantine that reaches about to the shoulder. The outside of the helmets is usually painted in different colors. The Japanese lanterns ( Chochin ) served as a model .
