Chafariz das Virtudes
The Chafariz das Virtudes (also Fonte das Virtudes , Fonte do Rio Frio ) is a baroque fountain in the Miragaia district of the Portuguese city of Porto .
history
In 1619 the Porto City Council commissioned the construction of the Fonte do Rio Frio , later renamed Fonte das Virtudes . With the well, the water of the Rio Frio and various mines should be made usable for the residents. The architect was Pantaleão de Seabra e Sousa , Fidalgo of the royal house and mayor ( regedor ) of the city.
In June 1910, the fountain was granted the status of Monumento Nacional .

The complex consists of a high gable that ends with the royal coat of arms, in the middle a - now empty - niche for a statue of Nossa Senhora das Virtudes.
