The Khakass State University (KSU) Nikolai Fedorovich Katanow ( Russian Хакасский государственный университет (ХГУ) имени Н.Ф. Катанова Chakasskij gossudarstwennyj uniwersitet (ChGU) imeni NF Katanowa ) is a Russian university in Abakan . It is the largest educational institution in the Republic of Khakassia .
The institution was founded on April 16, 1939, initially as a teacher’s institute, and in 1944 it became a pedagogical institute with departments for Russian language and literature, history, physics and mathematics. Since then it has been named after the founding rector Nikolai Fyodorowitsch Katanow . Since 1994 the college has had the status of a state university.
