Chambishi is a mining town 28 kilometers east of Kitwe in the province of Copperbelt in Zambia . It was founded in 1964 and originally consists of five villages around a copper opencast mine. The nearby river Kafue provides the necessary water. Chambishi has 10,000 inhabitants and is 1288 meters above sea level.

Like Maamba, Chambishi is now dominated by Chinese investors, so Chambishi Mining was bought by Chinese companies. Sino-Metals Leach Zambia produced 8,000 tonnes of copper cathode per year, an investment of 15 million US dollars , an annual turnover of 60 million US dollars and state tax profits of 20 million US dollars. In addition, Sino-Acid Zambia , a subsidiary of China Non-Ferrous Metals Group Corporation and China Hainan Sino-Africa Mining Investment , operate an acid factory with 220 employees producing 40,000 tons of acid per year with an investment of 4.6 million US dollars $ 8 million in annual revenue and $ 2.5 million in government tax income.

In November 2006, an agreement was signed between China and Zambia on the construction of a copper smelter with an annual output of 150,000 tons from 2008. The costs amount to 220 million US dollars, which China is financing. 1000 jobs are expected and export earnings will increase by $ 450 million.
