Chamoy Thipyaso ( Thai ชม้อย ทิพย์ โส , RTGS Chamoi Thipso ) was an employee of the Thai oil company PTT and operates a pyramid scheme .

Chamoy Thipyaso was the wife of a senior officer in the Thai Air Force . She founded the Mae Chamoy Fund in 1968 . This was ultimately a fraudulent investment company that works on the pyramid scheme. Before its collapse in 1984, the fund had 4.545 billion baht in circulation. It owed its explosive growth to the exorbitant returns of up to 78% p. a. In return, Thai banks offered hardly attractive 12% to 14% returns. The Thai government eventually took action against the fund, and disbanded it when it became a threat to Thai banking. 16,231 investors were left behind.

Chamoy was sentenced to a total of 141,078 years in prison on July 27, 1989 for fraud in 23,519 cases. Seven of her accomplices from similar ranks were also convicted, whose prison terms were also 141,078 years each. These are the highest known prison terms any individual has ever been sentenced to anywhere in the world. Since the Thai criminal law provided for a maximum of 20 years for fraud at this point in time, this penalty was actually used as a basis; She only had to serve seven years, eleven months and five days.
