Pelister ( Macedonian Пелистер ) is the highest mountain in the Baba Mountains . It is located 15 km west of Bitola in the southwest of North Macedonia . Pelister has an altitude of 2601 m. i. J. Pelister's Balkan pine forests are among the most important in North Macedonia.
In 1948 an area of 12,500 hectares was declared a national park. The Pelister National Park was on the list of nominations for North Macedonia from 1986 to 1988 as a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage
