Chanceswerk eV is a non-profit organization that advocates fair educational opportunities nationwide . With its learning support, the association supports children and young people in their school and individual development. The core of the concept is the “learning cascade”, which is based on the “give-and-take” principle: young people are trusted to support a group of children with their school tasks. In this way they become age-related “learning role models” and in turn receive learning assistance from students in a subject of their choice.

goals and tasks

According to the statutes, the goals of the association are:

"Promotion of youth welfare, promotion of upbringing, national and vocational training including student aid, promotion of international attitudes, tolerance in all areas of culture and the idea of international understanding, promotion of science and research as well as promotion of art and culture."

The association seeks to achieve these goals through:

  1. the improved integration through the intensification of the German-non-German relations, the improvement of the educational situation as well as the overall social engagement,
  2. the support and integration of children, adolescents and adults from all groups in this society through educational and funding opportunities as well as the implementation of parent, youth, girl and project work,
  3. Advice, assistance and information for schoolchildren, applicants, students, interns, academics and their parents,
  4. Implementation of various cross-generational cultural, leisure, educational, integration and meeting projects,
  5. Youth work and care,
  6. Initiatives to reduce racism ,
  7. and the scientific monitoring of the aforementioned measures.

The integration of migrant children into the German education system is to be promoted through the use of ethnic role models in which pupils / students help other pupils (see section “Concept” ).

history

The association was founded in 2004 by Murat and Şerife Vural, who both made their own experiences in the German education system as children of Turkish guest workers . They founded the association that was then IBFS e. V. (Intercultural Education and Support Association for Schoolchildren and Students) was called to help other schoolchildren with similarly difficult starting conditions. In 2010 opportunities work e. V. renamed.

In 2016, the association moved to larger premises at the current association headquarters in Castrop-Rauxel. In 2017 he opened the opportunities SCHOOL in the new club headquarters and was able to offer his learning support in his own premises for the first time. The cosinus learning program developed by the association has been used since 2019 .

Today the association cooperates with 86 schools in 34 cities in 9 federal states and reaches over 4,700 students every week.

concept

The core of the concept is the learning cascade , which is based on the “give-and-take” principle: young people are trusted to support a group of children with their school tasks. In return, they themselves receive learning assistance from students in a subject of their choice. The system is basically free of charge for young people who help other children to promote learning. Parents of younger children pay an income-related contribution.

This educational system, which combines team spirit and a learning experience, is intended to convey knowledge on an equal footing . With the learning cascade, the students themselves become age-related “learning role models”.

Chanceswerk prepares the students for their roles in the learning cascade and provides ongoing support. The work is based on close partnerships with schools, which are relieved in the long term by this cooperation. The learning support from opportunities work should start where the schools cannot meet the individually necessary support needs of the pupils.

financing

The association is largely financed by donations from foundations, companies and private individuals. In addition, there are public funds as part of the education and participation package and subsidized association contributions from parents. About 30% of the costs for supporting children are financed directly by the parents.
