Chang Chun-hsiung ( Chinese  張俊雄  /  张俊雄 , Pinyin Zhāng Jùnxióng ) (born March 23, 1938 ) is a Taiwanese politician ( Democratic Progressive Party ).

Life

Chang Chun-hsiung studied law at the National Taiwan University and graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Laws. As a lawyer, he defended the demonstrators in the Kaohsiung incident , a rally for the democratization of Taiwan in 1979. Between 1982 and 1986 he was president of the YMCA . Chang Chun-hsiung and his first wife Hsu Jui-ying have four children. In 2007 they divorced and he married Chu A-ying.

Chang was Prime Minister and Head of Government of the Republic of China in Taiwan from October 2000 to February 2002 and again from May 2007 to May 2008 . In 2000 he was the first Prime Minister appointed by the Progress Party.

He was a founding member of the Democratic Progressive Party and between 1986 and 2000 a member of the Central Committee and the party executive.

Between 1983 and 2000 he was a member of the Legislative Yuan .

In the 2000 presidential election, he led Chen Shui-bian's successful campaign . After the election he became Secretary General of the President's Office.

From 2005 to 2007 he was President of the Straits Exchange Foundation.
