Charaton
Charaton was a ruler of the European Huns in the early 5th century.
Very little is known of the person of Charaton. 412/13 he acted as a kind of overlord over the Huns in today's Hungary . In the sources, an embassy of the Eastern Roman emperor is mentioned, in which Olympiodorus of Thebes also participated, but whose report has only survived in fragments. According to this, Charaton was angry about the murder of Donatus (although it is unclear whether Donatus himself was also a prince of the Huns), but was appeased by the Romans with gifts (Olympiodoros, fragment 18). It is not known whether Charaton had any influence on the Huns on the lower Danube or how large his area of rule was.
