Chardal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chardal ( Arabic خردل, DMG ḫardal ) is the Arabic word for mustard . The mustard seed was considered a particularly small unit of mass in the Arab weight system. According to al-Maqrīzī , a mustard seed = 1/70 Habba , of which 60 corresponded to a silver dirham. From this, Walther Hinz concludes a weight of 0.000707 grams for this weight measure.

According to other information, 6 mustard seeds = 1 jou (about 0.045 grams).
