The Charioteer (official name FV4101 Cromwell Heavy AT Gun ) was a British tank destroyer (ger .: tank destroyer ) from the 1950s. It was developed from the British Cromwell main battle tank .
description
In the early 1950s, the intention was to equip the British armored forces with armored vehicles equipped with more powerful cannons. As a result, Cromwell tanks began to be fitted with a new turret equipped with a 20 pounder cannon . A total of 442 old A27M Cromwell were bought by Robinson and Kershaw Ltd. in Cheshire equipped with new turrets and 20 pounder cannons. The tank was only used by the British Army until the late 1950s. Most of the vehicles were sold to Austria , Finland and Jordan .
The engine consisted of a V-12-cylinder Rolls-Royce-Meteor . The water-cooled engine could generate an output of 600 hp. The ground clearance was 400 mm.
