Charles Torossian

Charles Torossian (born before 1991) is a French mathematician and French Secretary General for Education.

Torossian studied at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris and received his doctorate in 1991 under Michel Duflo at the University of Paris VII (Denis Diderot) (Symmetric Spaces). He is a professor at the University of Paris VII. He is also General Inspector for Education (Inspecteur général de l'Education nationale) for the French government.

As a mathematician, he deals with representation theory of Lie groups and algebras and deformation quantization. In particular, he is known for his work on the Kashiwara Vergne conjecture. Their complete proof by Eckhard Meinrenken and Anton Alekseev (2006) builds on the work of Torossian (Torossian gave a lecture on this in the Bourbaki seminar, No. 980, 2008) and in 2008 he gave an alternative proof with Alekseev, based on Drinfeld associates.

In 2018, he and Cedric Villani presented a report for the reform of mathematics teaching in French schools (21 mesures pour enseignement des mathématiques).
