Eckhard Meinrenken

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eckhard Meinrenken is a German-Canadian mathematician and mathematical physicist who deals with symplectic geometry , differential geometry , theory and mathematical physics.

Eckhard Meinrenken, Oberwolfach 2007

Meinrenken received his doctorate in physics summa cum laude from Hartmann Römer in 1994 at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg ( multiplicity formulas for the quantization of phase spaces ). As a post-doctoral student , he was at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , where he was an instructor from 1995 to 1997. In 1998 he became Assistant Professor, 2000 Associate Professor and 2004 Professor at the University of Toronto .

In 1998 he proved the Guillemin and Sternberg conjecture (quantization interchanged with reduction) from 1982.

With Anton Alekseev and Anton Malkin, he introduced moment mappings with values in Lie groups into symplectic geometry.

In 2001 he received the Andre Aisenstadt Prize and in 2003 the McLean Award from the University of Toronto. In 2007 he received the NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada) EWR Steacie Memorial Fellowship. In 2002 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Beijing ( Clifford Algebras and the Duflo Isomorphism ). The talk was about joint work with Anton Alekseev (University of Geneva) on a new proof of the Duflo isomorphism for quadratic Lie algebras. With Alekseev, he proved a guess of Kashiwara - Vergne .

In 2008 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada . He is editor of the Comptes rendus mathématiques (Mathematical Reports) of the Royal Society of Canada and co-editor of Documenta Mathematica. In 2001 he received the André Aisenstadt Prize .
