Charles Veillon (born September 5, 1900 in Basel , † April 10, 1971 in Lausanne ) was a Swiss entrepreneur.

Life

Charles Veillon comes from a Wadtländer family of Bex and Aigle . He was the son of Otto Veillon and Rose Veillon, nee Tschumi. In 1926 he married Rose-Marie Girard.

He worked as an office worker from 1916 and from 1924 at the Swiss branch in La Chaux-de-Fonds of the French mail order company founded by his father-in-law André Girard; Girard was the first in Switzerland to start delivering items that were ordered in advance and against credit. Charles Veillon took over management of the company in 1930 together with a partner. From 1943 he ran his own mail order company in Lausanne under the name Charles Veillon Confection SA.

Charles Veillon was involved in many different cultural fields. He hired artists for his company's in-house newspaper. He presided over the La Chaux-de-Fonds Conservatory and founded several literary prizes , including the Prix ​​Veillon for literature in the four national languages ​​of Switzerland , which has been awarded since 1947 .

He was awarded the Legion of Honor for his work .
