Charlotte Waters in the Northern Territory was from 1872 a relay station of the Trans- Australian Telegraph Line , not far from the border of South Australia . Charlotte Waters was named after Charlotte Bacon .

The place was created in 1871 during the construction of the telegraph line. In 1872 a relay station, post office, merchandise store and residential building were built.

The remote place in the Simpson desert is located in an area that consists of desert pavement without trees or bushes. It was important in early Australia as the end or starting point of expeditions, for example for Ernest Giles and Peter Warburton .

The relay station was abandoned when it was no longer needed due to the introduction of new technologies. Later the buildings served as a police station. Today only ruins exist.
