Chavda

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chavda (also Chawda , Chapa , Chapotaka ) were a Hindu dynasty in the north of Gujarat in the period from approx. 690 to 942. The capital of the empire was initially Panchasar , later Patan .

history

Vanraj Chavda is considered the founder and most important ruler of the Chavda dynasty , who was able to recapture the territory of his murdered father Jai Shikhri in 746. He founded the cities of Patan and Champaner . Other kings have been handed down by name - the exact reigns are, however, in the dark. The last ruler Samantsinh Chavda died without a male successor; he therefore adopted his nephew Mulraj Solanki , who seized power in 942 and founded the Solanki dynasty.

One of Samantsinh's wives fled to Jaisalmer , where she gave birth to a son by the name of Ahipat , who was later able to set up his own small territory through raids, which remained under his successors until the conquest of Ala ud-Din Khaljis (1297 or 1299).
