The company operates websites in the US , UK , Australia , New Zealand , France , Spain , Italy , Canada and Germany .

Cheapflug.de offers a search engine on its website to find cheap flights. Cheapflug.de itself does not sell flights, but lists offers from airlines, low-cost airlines and online travel providers.

Cheapflights was founded by former travel journalist John Hatt in 1996 in Great Britain. At that time Cheapflights was the first price comparison website for travel offers and revolutionized online research.

In 2000, Cheapflights was bought by a consortium of private investors led by David Soskin and Hugo Burge and introduced the PPC ( Pay per Click ) model in Europe and the online travel industry . Cheapflights expands in 2008 and the Canadian website goes live. Cheapflug.de is the company's first non-English language website to be launched. The websites for Australia, Spain, France and Italy followed in 2009. In 2010, the Cheapflights Media Group achieved more than 100 million visitors per year for the first time and generated more than 6.2 billion sales per year for its advertising partners.

In 2011 the online company acquired the Danish meta-search website momondo.com, thereby expanding its geographic reach to 15 countries.
