Cheat Engine , often abbreviated as CE , is a free memory scanner , hex editor and debugger . The program was developed by Eric Heijnen ("Dark Byte") for Mac OS and Windows . Cheat Engine is mostly used to in video games to cheat . The program searches for values in the main memory of the computer with the aid of a large number of options and with the aid of input by the user in order to display and change them. Cheat Engine can also create individual executable game trainers that can run on their own to change the memory of games.

description

Cheat Engine can display the memory from other processes and make changes there to give the user an advantage. Examples would be infinite life, time or ammunition. There are also Direct3D manipulation tools that make it possible, for example, to see through walls or to reduce or enlarge the field of view. In addition to manipulating the memory, Cheat Engine can also move the mouse, among other things.

Cheat Engine can insert program code into other processes, so it is often recognized as a computer virus by antivirus programs . The most common reason for these false alarms is that the Cheat Engine makes use of some Trojan horse techniques that allow parts of the system to be accessed. Therefore, the program is recognized as suspicious, especially if heuristic detection is turned on in the antivirus software. Newer versions of Cheat Engine are less likely to be restricted in their function by antivirus software , so code can be inserted in memory without problems.
