Muhammad Sahrāwī (محمد صحراوي, DMG Muḥammad Ṣaḥrāwī ), better known by his stage name asch-Shāb Sahrāwī (الشاب صحراوي, DMG aš-Šāb Ṣaḥrāwī , "The young man Sahrawi / from the desert ") or Cheb Sahraoui ( French , pronounced sch-; born as Mohammed Sahraoui in Tlemcen ), is an Algerian Raï musician.

Sahraoui is considered gifted pianist and has four years in the Conservatory in Oran studied. In the late 1970s he met his future wife, Chaba Fadela , with whom he also worked for the next 20 years. Initially, the duo only performed at weddings and similar private celebrations. With their first joint release "N'sel Fik" from 1983 - produced by Rachid Baba Ahmed - they also gained an increasing reputation in the West, which was achieved in 1993 in a collaboration with Bill Laswell for the album "Walli" and successful international tours precipitated. "N'Sel Fik" was included on The Wire's 100 Records That Set The World On Fire (While No One Was Listening) .

At the end of the 1990s the marriage broke up and so did the artistic collaboration. Since then, Sahraoui has been working alone again.
