Cheltenham and Great Western Union Railway

The Cheltenham and Great Western Union Railway was a British railway company based in Swindon and Gloucestershire in south-west England.

The company was founded on June 21, 1836. The first section from Swindon to Kemble and Cirencester opened on May 31, 1841. The line from Kemble to Gloucester opened on May 12, 1845. The section from the settlement Standish to Gloucester was shared with the Bristol and Gloucester Railway . In 1872 the line, built in the broad gauge of 2140 mm, was converted to standard gauge.

The 68-kilometer line was leased to the Great Western Railway from the time it opened . On May 10, 1844, the Great Western Railway took over the company.
