Cheney Longville Castle

Cheney Longville Castle is a fortified manor house in the village Cheney Longville north of Craven Arms in the southern English county of Shropshire . English Heritage has the house as a historical building II *. Grade listed. It is considered a Scheduled Monument .

history

In 1394 Hugh Cheney received permission from King Richard II to fortify his mansion in "Longefeld" (English: License to Crenellate).

The house was attacked and taken during the English Civil War . It was badly damaged by cannon fire. It was restored after the war.

The manor was bought by John Talbot in 1682 , who in turn sold it to William Beddoes in 1745 . His descendants are still the owners of the property today.

The largely restored house from the 14th century has a floor area of ​​30.48 meters × 36.58 meters. The remains of the moat can still be seen in the south and east of the house . The entrance is from the north through a modern doorway. The apartments are arranged on the north side and partly on the east and west side, which were originally separated from the courtyard with the stables in the south by a wall.
