Chenmetneferhedjet I.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chenmetneferhedjet (I.) (also Chenmet-nefer-hedjet ) was an ancient Egyptian queen of the 12th dynasty. She was the wife of Sesostris II (ruled around 1901 to 1882 BC) and the mother of Sesostris III. (ruled around 1882 BC to around 1862 BC).

Nothing is known about the queen's origin. Among other things, she bore the titles of “ King's Wife ”, “ King's Mother ” and the otherwise very rare title in the Middle Kingdom “ Who says something that is then made for her ”. Chenmetneferhedjet was probably buried in Lahun , next to the pyramid of her husband Sesostris II, in a separate grave. In Dahshur , next to the Sesostris III.-pyramid, there is also a dummy pyramid for them. This had a small mortuary temple, which was decorated with reliefs, and a chamber that is much too small for a burial.

Her name caused some confusion in research, because Chenmet-nefer-hedjet is also attested as the title of queens. In Chenmetneferhedjet's inscriptions, this name is followed by the name “Weret”, the elder . This gave rise to the assumption that Chenmetneferhedjet was the title and Weret the proper name of this queen. However, the relief finds at her dummy pyramid in Dahshur show that Chenmetneferhedjet was indeed her name, as this name is sometimes the only one there. Weret is therefore to be understood as a middle name or surname.
