The Cheongju Early Printing Museum ( 청주고 인쇄 박물관 Cheongju Goinswae Bangmulgwan ) is a museum in the city of Cheongju , South Korea .

history

It was built from May 7, 1986 to March 17, 1992. Since then, the city of Cheongju has managed the building.

The museum is dedicated to Jikji , a book dealing with the teachings of the Zen of great Buddhist priests and written by the Buddhist monk Baegun ( 백운 ) during the Goryeo period (918-1392) a few years before the book was published in 1377 . Printing took place 78 years before Johannes Gutenberg , who is considered to be the inventor of book printing.
