ChiRunning

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ChiRunning is a holistic running technique training based on the principles of TaiChi . The aim is to run the running movement as naturally and thus as economically as possible and thereby avoid injuries due to incorrect stress. ChiRunning is part of the natural running movement.

history

The concept was developed by Danny Dreyer , an American ultra runner , in the 1990s. The book ChiRunning by Danny and Katherin Dreyer was published in 2004 and has also been available in German since 2010. Certified instructors now offer ChiRunning workshops worldwide. One of the most famous ChiRunning instructors and runners is the Irish runner Catherina McKiernan , winner of the London , Berlin and Amsterdam marathons .

Principles

In addition to the mental focus on movement and breath, alignment and relaxation are the essential components of the ChiRunning technique. The existing forces, such as gravity and the force of the road, are used for the forward movement. To do this, the body must be optimally aligned, the core must be activated and the lower legs and ankles relaxed. When the body is optimally aligned, the foot touches the metatarsus near the center of gravity. The so-called pelvic rotation is another feature of the technology that helps minimize the impact forces. In ChiRunning, the focus is not primarily on building stamina and speed, but primarily on perfecting the running movement. The ChiRunning method turns running training into an exercise, as it were, similar to practicing meditation or TaiChi.
